Google Just Killed the Last Bit of Fitbit on Pixel Watch

Google is cleaning house. The ECG app on Pixel Watch is getting an update that removes the last visible Fitbit branding from the watch's software. The app drawer label no longer shows Fitbit, the icon has been redrawn, and any lingering bugs that prevented the app from working have been addressed.

The update is rolling out widely now to Pixel Watch and Pixel Watch 2 users.

What's Changed

The most visible change is the icon. The ECG app has traded its previous look for a new red-themed icon that aligns better with Google's current design language across Workspace apps and other Google products. It stands out more in a sea of blue health app icons, which is a small but meaningful usability improvement when you are trying to find a specific app quickly on a small screen.

The bigger story is the branding removal. Since Google completed its health platform transition, Fitbit-branded apps on Pixel Watch have been gradually renamed and restyled. The Exercise app was one of the first to lose the Fitbit name. Now the ECG app has followed. There is no longer any Fitbit branding remaining on the Pixel Watch software side. Everything lives under the Google Health umbrella.

The Bug Fix

For some users, the ECG app had stopped working entirely in recent weeks. Reports surfaced in late May of users losing access to the electrocardiogram feature, which is one of the Pixel Watch's more notable health tools. This update appears to resolve those issues and restore functionality for affected users.

Why This Matters

The Fitbit-to-Google Health transition has been gradual, and this update marks the final cleanup of the Pixel Watch interface. For users who bought into the Fitbit ecosystem when Google first started integrating it into Pixel hardware, the shift has been mostly invisible. The ECG app worked the same way; it just had Fitbit branding on it.

What matters more is the bug fix. ECG is a feature that users rely on for actual health monitoring, not just novelty. An app that silently stops working is worse than no feature at all. Google fixing it without requiring a full manual update is welcome.

Check Your Update

The ECG app update is rolling out automatically. If your Pixel Watch is set to receive automatic updates, you should see the new icon and branding shortly. If you have automatic updates disabled, you can check manually through the Wear OS settings or force a sync through the Google Pixel Watch app on your phone.
